Birth-Time Accuracy and the Descendant

A time recorded to the minute in an official document, a time recalled as 'around 8:30,' and a time guessed from family stories are different data qualities. Record the source alongside the time so later readers understand the confidence level.

Even official records can be rounded or copied incorrectly. Accuracy is evidence-based, not guaranteed by formatting.

Birthplace coordinates affect the local horizon. Timezone and daylight-saving rules convert local civil time to the universal time used in astronomical calculation. Modern timezone databases are useful, but historical border changes and local exceptions can require additional checking.

Do not select a present-day offset manually when the historical rule is available. A one-hour error can materially move the angles.

If the time is 'about 9:00,' calculate 8:45, 9:00, and 9:15 or use the full plausible range. Record the Descendant degree and planets near the 7th House cusp for each chart.

Stable factors can be interpreted with more confidence. Factors that change should be presented as alternatives, not silently fixed to the midpoint.

A chart is especially time-sensitive when the Descendant is near the end of a sign or a planet is close to the cusp. If neither condition applies, a modest time uncertainty may change degrees without changing the broad interpretation.

The question is not 'Is the time perfect?' but 'Which conclusions depend on precision the source cannot support?'

Birth-time rectification attempts to infer a time from life events and astrological timing. It is practitioner-dependent and can become circular when the astrologer selects events that confirm a preferred chart.

If rectification is used, keep the original recorded time, the proposed correction, the events considered, and the method visible. A rectified time should not be presented as documentary fact.

A transparent reading might say: 'The Descendant remains Taurus across the reported 20-minute range, but Uranus moves from the 6th to the 7th House. The Taurus-ruler interpretation is stable; the Uranus house claim is provisional.'

That statement is more useful than false precision because it tells the reader which parts of the interpretation can be trusted under the available data.
