What this tool calculates

A sign-rulership lookup, not a complete chart reading

The sign on the 7th House cusp determines its ruler. Because the Descendant is opposite the Ascendant, a known Rising sign is enough to identify the opposite sign and its ruling planet. The calculator uses traditional rulership as the primary result and shows Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto as modern co-rulers where relevant.

The next interpretive step requires a full natal chart. Locate the ruling planet by house and sign, then check its close aspects and condition. Those factors explain where the partnership story moves and how the ruler can operate. The lookup alone cannot identify a future spouse or predict whether a relationship will last.

Traditional and modern rulers

Traditional astrology uses the seven visible planets, giving Mars rulership of Scorpio, Saturn rulership of Aquarius, and Jupiter rulership of Pisces. Many modern astrologers add Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune respectively. This tool keeps the traditional ruler primary because it creates a complete and historically consistent house-ruler chain, while still showing the modern co-ruler for comparison.

Why the Rising sign can identify the 7th House sign

The Ascendant and Descendant form one horizon axis and sit 180 degrees apart. That means the sign opposite the Rising sign contains the Descendant: Aries rises opposite Libra, Taurus opposite Scorpio, Gemini opposite Sagittarius, and so on. The sign relationship is exact even though the degree still matters for aspects and cusp sensitivity.

This shortcut identifies a ruler but not the ruler's natal placement. To continue, you still need the complete chart showing planetary houses, signs, degrees, and aspects. Treat the result as the first line of a reading sequence rather than the final answer.

If you do not know your Rising sign

Use an accurate birth date, local birth time, and birthplace in the Birth Chart Calculator. A guessed birth time can move the horizon enough to change the Rising sign, Descendant, and ruling planet. If your time is uncertain, compare the earliest and latest plausible times.

Continue the interpretation in four steps

  1. Step 1

    Locate the ruler

Find the planet's natal house, sign, degree, and whether it is close to an angle.

  2. Step 2

    Check major aspects

Start with close conjunctions, squares, oppositions, trines, and sextiles.

  3. Step 3

    Read planets in the 7th

A planet already in the house may amplify or complicate the cusp-and-ruler story.

  4. Step 4

    Look for repetition

Give more weight to themes repeated through Venus, the Moon, Saturn, or the chart ruler.
